Celebrate Oregon Craft Beer Month

-
Quick WitJuly is Oregon Craft Beer Month! As you may, or may not, know there are currently 136 brewing companies operating 169 brewing facilities in 61 cities in Oregon, including Worthy, Bridgeport, Barley Browns, Three Creeks, 10 Barrel, Hop Valley, Logsdon, Ale Industries, Deschutes, Double Mountain, Migration, Amnesia, Caldera, Full Sail, Lompoc, Laurelwood, Breakside, Gigantic, Good Life, Boneyard, Terminal Gravity, Calapooia, Falling Sky, Cascade Lakes, Beer Valley, DeGarde, Hopworks, among others. 52 of these breweries operate out of Portland alone, making Portland the host of more breweries than any other city in the world.

Being a native Oregonian, I have my share of local favorites.

  • 2013 Stumptown TartQuick Wit Beer from Fort George Brewing located in Astoria, Oregon - This is a cloudy pale Belgian Style beer which tastes of wheat, spice, and lemongrass with very little, if any, bitterness.
  • Stumptown Tart Belgian Style Ale from BridgePort Brewing out of Portland, Oregon - As the name suggests, a mixture of Oregon grown berries (this year raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries) has been added to a Belgian yeast based brew to produce a tart fruity ale which is light & refreshing. Perfect on a hot day.
  • McMenamins Terminator Stout - Highly reminiscent of Young's Double Chocolate Stout, this dark full bodied ale is made from kiln-baked specialty grains to produce toasty nutty coffee-esc flavors.

Of course, there exist a virtual plethora of Oregon beers I haven't tried yet, which is what Oregon Craft Beer Month is all about. In order to expose drinkers, like me, to a wider array of locally crafted brews, this month will be peppered with promotional events including:

Happy Drinking! :-)
